Susan at ArtsWestchester Public Art Exhibition

Bio

Susan Cox works at her kiln and casting studio in Pound Ridge, New York. She has a Master’s degree in Architecture from Columbia University. After years of practicing architecture, Susan has turned to glass as a more immediate means of exploring her ideas of light, space, and memory.  In addition to her recent four month residency at Bullseye Resource Center, Mamaroneck, NY, and being chosen an “Emerge” finalist, Susan was honored by ArtsWestchester as one of their “50 For 50” artist’s initiative for 2015. ss

Artist Statement

My work has always connected to and grown from my background in Architecture. The correlation between light and the understanding of space are key elements in my process. Taking the iconic house form, I am appropriating it and instilling my own levels of understanding and meaning into it. I consider the different pathways we use to connect to the concept of "home" - the evanescent qualities of childhood memories, the lifelong moments of looking back and looking forward, the landscape where we feel most at peace or at home, and the act of individualizing a home to identify and make it ours. Finally, consider the home within each of us.
